Frequently Asked Questions we often receive in the office and over the phone
How do I schedule my first appointment?
Scheduling an appointment is a simple 2-step process. 1) determine if you want our help. We can only meet you where you are. 2) Click on the button at the top of the page (insert specific text here) and fill out the information. You will be receive some new patient paperwork, which is required for your exam, as well as a welcome text and welcome video to help you find your way and know what to expect on your first appointment.
What should I expect during my initial examination?
After you schedule your initial examination, you will receive a confirmation text and email, which contains all the information you will need about your first appointment. This includes a map to the office, what to bring with you, how to reach us to reschedule, and any other questions you might have.
Your initial examination is one of your longest appointments in our office, and we will attempt to be thorough. This appointment can take up to an hour, though our goal is to honor your time while giving your condition the attention it deserves. We will review your paperwork and discuss your health history and goals with you in an attempt to get to the real problem under the surface. We will also do a chiropractic exam, followed by Xrays if necessary. Typically, we do not adjust on the first appointment, but we may make exceptions based on certain conditions.
How long until I can expect to see results from my first visit?
Results may vary depending on the chiropractor’s findings. In many cases, we will be able to give you some preliminary results at a second appointment the following day, where you will also receive your first adjustment. We will also be able to measure how well your body responds to your adjustments through some more diagnostic testing. This will help establish a baseline of your care so that we can make the best recommendations for you to get the best results possible. In the third appointment, you will receive another adjustment (if you choose) and receive all of your recommendations, including your treatment plan, insurance coverage, and any financial options. We recommend you bring a spouse or partner to this appointment so that we can help explain our findings to them so that you don’t have to, and to help you have an advocate to understand our findings and help you get the results you came to us for.
What type of conditions does the chiropractor treat?
By nature, a chiropractor is concerned with an inside-out approach to your health. Her job is to support your body’s natural intelligent design to heal itself. Conditions such as subluxation can cause an interruption in the function and efficiency of the Nervous System, which can cause a variety of health issues. Scheduling your first appointment to see if you have any form of subluxation is an important part of living a healthy life where you don’t just manage your pain, but you live healthy.
What are the costs associated with visiting a chiropractor?
Your treatment cost will vary depending on your treatment plan, and for that reason, your total cost of service may differ. Simply, your treatment plan is tailored to you, and factors such as insurance coverage or benefits are included in the total out of pocket cost. Compared to a visit to your local doctor, where an initial exam, including Xrays, consult, and Report of Findings can cost over $5,000, our care is much more affordable.
As a reasonable guide, care plans can cost less than a single visit to the Emergency Room, and can range between $2,000 and $5,000.
How does the chiropractor measure progress?
Our progress is measured by how well we help you meet your goals. Chiropractically, this would include goals around the state of your spine and what your condition costs you. Are you able to chase your kids around the house? Can you stand all day at work without a break? Can you sleep through the night? Eventually, the goals change, and then we are concerned with your overall health, including both the state of your spine and your ability to do your next 5k, lose that next 20 lbs, or get that promotion at work.
What are the risks and benefits of chiropractic treatment?
Being nervous about your first chiropractic adjustment is natural. It’s nothing to be ashamed of. No treatment plan is without risk, though the risk of a chiropractic adjustment is small. Not every chiropractic adjustment will leave you feeling relieved, but be assured, any adjustment that improves the overall structure of your spine is an improvement. Health isn’t how you feel. It’s how you heal. And from a risk/reward ratio, the small risk of an adjustment and the massive reward of living life on your terms is nothing compared to the risk of surgery or drugs (both of which will likely end up in more surgery or drugs to cover the side effects of the previous surgery or drugs).
Does the chiropractor provide any additional services?
We take a holistic approach to your health. This includes neuromuscular re-education via whole body vibration therapy, which helps bring a certain physical therapy element into your chiropractic adjustment by training your muscles to support the adjustment. We also have a full spectrum infrared sauna to help promote your body’s healing. Our Powell location has Decompression Therapy and Softwave Therapy, as well as some active therapies to aid in your recovery. Finally, all patients have access to our Metabolix program, which includes lab testing for a variety of metabolic of gastrointestinal issues, and a host of workshops, community dinners, and outreach initiatives.
What is the chiropractor’s approach to patient education?
We believe that a doctor is a teacher, and if your doctor isn’t teaching you, it’s time to fire her and find another. We believe that chiropractic isn’t about the adjustment. It’s a message-based mission designed to empower you to honor your God-given design for health—real health, on your terms. This means we hold a variety of workshops, masterclasses, and community dinners to empower you and your family to be healthy. We are community-driven, so a lot of our education initiatives are outside of our office in workplaces, at festivals, or anywhere people meet. After all, Chiropractic is a mission.
